Fire Safety Awareness week is in full force here in Longview, WA.  Local preschools have made an effort to get children into fire stations to meet firefighters and learn some of the dangers in the home as well as what type of planning should be done in case of a fire.  This week is a perfect time to talk to your children about fire safety.

Did you know:

  • 3 of every 5 home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no working smoke alarms.
  • Less than 50% of homeowners have an escape plan
  • Carbon Monoxide is the #1 cause of accidental death
  • 60% of consumers do not test their smoke and CO alarms monthly
  • Only 47% of people report having CO alarms in their home
  • Just 43% of homeowners have an escape plan

Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue will be having an open house this Saturday the 12th from 11am to 2pm in Kelso.

Longview Fire Department Main Station will also hold an open house from 10am to 2pm with Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog
