Bat Infestation at a Local Residence

When a bat wants to hide from its predators and needs a spot to stay warm, where is a good place? Your attic of course!

SERVPRO of Longview/Kelso received a call from a customer concerned that there were bat droppings in their attic. Animals can cause havoc when they get inside homes and buildings. In this residential home, they had an infestation of bats in their attic. The occupants of this home first heard (noises). Once the bats were removed they left behind a huge mess and a large amount of feces. The professional technicians at SERVPRO were able to clean the feces and deodorize the home. Bats eat a lot of insects and have a high metabolism, and each bat poops 20-30 times per day, leaving behind a whole heck of a lot of bat poo!

The droppings and urine are corrosive to wood and metal, and can compromise the structural integrity of the building. As a side effect of bats living in a home, mold can start to grow in the bat droppings.

During our removal process, all materials that may have come in contact with the bat droppings, had to be removed such as drywall, insulation, cloth materials, cardboard, and wood (depending on the saturation of droppings). There is a specialized remediation process to remove the bat droppings from the attic space and dispose of them safely. SERVPRO is highly trained in the remediation process for buildings and homes affected by bat infestations.
